With any design, be it a logo, car or even a motorbike, you need to have a clear objective. What is the product going to do and what are the expectations? Included in this equation is the target market, or the intended person who’s going to use this said product.
In a country where the biking culture is dominated by size, speed and bragging rights, does the BMW F 800 GT have its place or is it nothing but a ‘girl’s’ bike for beginners?
In all my years of riding I’ve never wanted to ‘bitch-slap’ so many people whilst testing a motorcycle, and they were all bikers who ride ‘modern’ stuff. Wherever I went with the Kawasaki W800 it was ridiculed and I found myself venomously defending it as if it were my own child squirted from the loins of my precious ‘bat and balls.’ These so called motorcyclist would arrogantly laugh and cackle as they shouted, “What fook is this ‘W’ thing, is it another of those Chinese bikes?”
Africa is a wild and wonderful place. The people and places are diverse, extreme and beautiful. I’ve only recently got the urge to see what’s out there for myself so when Bill asked if I wanted to test the F 800 GS Adventure I jumped at the opportunity. Would this bike be all I needed or does its big brother, the R 1200 GS Adventure, still hold all the trumps?
