2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM ACT 001Yamaha's latest Yard Built creation is a true Italian beast, a tracker style build with understated design showing true metallurgy craftsmanship. The Moto di Ferro Yard Built XV950 'Speed Iron' is the brainchild of Italian builder Marco Lugato.

Marco is one of those builders that has genuine oil in the blood, riding from a very early age, first off-road and then as a professional road racer, his credentials are without question. After a career in racing followed by some years honing his craftsmanship in various workshops Moto di Ferro (Iron Motorcycle) was finally born in 2009 as a custom house to build the motorcycles that Marco dreamed of.2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM DET 001

The collaboration with Yard Built came about following an encounter in Wheels & Waves between Marco and Yamaha Motor Europe's Product Manager Shun Miyazawa and Marketing Coordinator Cristian Barelli. They chewed the fat, exchanging ideas and rode each other's motorcycles before agreeing a collaboration was a must. An XV950 was chosen and delivered and the project was born.2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM DET 002

"As we met and talked in Biarritz with Marco it was clear we shared the same passion and love for motorcycles," commented Cristian Barelli. "One of the most important aspects for us when considering Moto di Ferro to work together on this collaboration was that Marco doesn't consider this to be just a one-off machine, but a concept he can build based on the XV950 for multiple customers. Marco has shown the maximum expression for him of the XV950 and I'm really happy with the 'Speed Iron'. It has a clear Moto di Ferro design whilst retaining the simplicity and performance of the XV950, it's a beautiful bike that is still very much fun and rewarding to ride, and potentially available for a wide audience of Yamaha riders to own."2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM DET 003

The concept for 'Speed Iron' comes from Marco's passion for speed. He wanted to create a motorcycle with strong design queues combined with soft lines. Thick tyres were important but not at the expense of rideability. Those thick tyres were wrapped around beautiful Borrani rims with the front suspension getting swapped out for VMAX forks. 2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM DET 004

A handmade aluminium tank and rear seat unit take the weight down and complement the handmade aluminium side panels. The front brake discs increase to 320mm and benefit from VMAX calipers for proper stopping power. An Acewell odometer provides just the right amount of data for the rider and an Arrow exhaust adds the soundtrack.2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM DET 008

Various other pieces complete the look, including Tarozzi footpegs and LSL dumbbells. A handmade rear frame sets the clear line across the bike and an aftermarket headlight and stop lights integrated into the turn signals keep everything super clean.2016 YAM XV950MOTODIFERRO EU CUSTOM STAT 002

The great news for XV950 owners is that Marco plans to make various parts from the 'Speed Iron' build available so you can create your own Italian custom, or even better hand over your XV950 to him and have it made for you.

After bad luck at the first round of the South African Cross Country (SACC) Motorcycle championship, Brother Leader Tread KTM riders Louw Schmidt (OR2 class) and Juan 'Bollie' van Rooyen (Seniors class) both walked away victorious from the second round of the SACC championship that was held this past weekend in Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal. Their team mates Ross Branch (OR1 class) and Jarryd Coetzee (OR3 class) delivered more podium finishes in the cold pre winter conditions after completing a 50km time trial on Friday that was followed by a 355km race on Saturday.

Brother Leader Tread KTM's Ross Branch went out first on Time Trial, but being the first rider out, Branch made a few navigational mistakes, putting the talented rider from Botswana further back in the starting order for Saturday. Branch was motivated to catch up, and so he did on race day, making up places and rounding off the OR1 podium in Dundee.

"The race was rough, but I really enjoyed my KTM 450 XC-F and made up a lot of placing during the race, finishing third overall for the day. I can't wait for the next race coming up in June in my home country Botswana.", said Branch.

Defending OR2 champion Louw Schmidt had to make up places after a bad start to the season at round one at Vryburg. The Marble Hall based rider however proved yet again why he's worthy of the title when he comfortably won his class in Dundee, adding valuable points to the championship scoring.

"I first struggled with arm pump and had to get used to the track which was quite slippery. I qualified ninth and started making my way through the field during race day, taking the lead in the OR2 class 50 km's into the race. I enjoyed the first three long laps and really had fun heading into the shorter loop towards the end.", said Schmidt who posted the fastest lap on the shorter loop, winning the OR2 class and finishing in 4th place overall.

In the OR3 class the battle between Brother Leader Tread KTM's Jarryd Coetzee and Brett Swanepoel continued and made for some exciting racing. Coetzee had to settle for second place in this highly competitive class and can't wait to continue this battle in Botswana where he is hoping for a race win onboard his KTM 250 XC-F. His team mate Jonathan van Wyk finished the OR3 class in sixth place in class.

The Seniors class was dominated by defending champion Juan 'Bollie' von Rooyen, who posted the fastest times in the Seniors class onboard his Brother Leader Tread KTM 300 XC-W and is now back in the running for the title.

The team is looking forward to round 3 and 4 of the SACC championship which will be held in Jwaneng, Botswana, from 24 to 26 June.end bike test

Founded by former professional racers, SHARK has more than 25 years experience pushing technical boundaries to become a market leader in the motorcycle helmet field. As a wholly owned French brand, SHARK oversees the entire manufacturing process, from design and development to production, from its Marseille headquarters.

Yamaha's 2016 MT Tour is the second outing following the hugely successful European MT Range activation experience in 2015. The tour makes more than 50 stops in over 10 European countries between April and November this year. With more than 70,000 units sold since the MT Range arrived two years ago, the demand to get up close and personal with the Dark Side of Japan experience has never been greater. As a result the 2016 tour not only offers the opportunity to test the full product range (including new offerings MT-03 and MT-10) but also a unique walk on the wild side at night with the Dark Side of Japan Night event at selected stops of the tour.

SHARK Helmets have made an appearance in most of Yamaha's MT model promotional films since the range was introduced, making them a perfect partner for the 2016 MT Tour. The partnership brings the possibility for users to step even closer to their own personal Dark Side of Japan moment, being able to experience both a selected model from the 2016 MT Range and a SHARK helmet to complete the ride.

Different SHARK models will be available to experience at each stop of the 2016 MT Tour, these include the SHARK Raw (to partner the MT-09), the Vancore (to partner the MT-125) and the latest model, the Skwal, featuring built in LED lights for the full MT effect.

2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM STU 008With spring well and truly underway Yamaha heads to Istanbul in Turkey to collaborate with a new member of the Yard Built family, Bunker Custom Motorcycles. Brothers Can and Mert Uzer are not your typical custom bike builders, Can a high level skateboarder with the Vans Turkey Skateboarding Team and Mert transferring to building bikes full-time following a career in Digital Advertising.2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM STU 007

The two first caught the attention and interest of Yamaha Motor Europe with their distinctive 1982 Yamaha SR500 build. The super clean classic Yamaha custom screamed handmade and raw, and most appropriately was definitely built to ride. As a result the collaboration with Yard Built was born and the two have been busy over the last few months adding their Bunker Custom style to the Yamaha XSR700, delivering a rugged, tracker style machine that looks ready to tackle the beaches, mountain roads and anything else you want to throw at it.2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM DET 001

"I'm really impressed with the work Can and Mert have put into this build," commented Yamaha Motor Europe's Marketing Coordinator, Cristian Barelli. "What is really important for me is that they have kept the XSR700's agility and power characteristics that really define the bike. Around this they have added their very distinctive style, showing a whole new face to the XSR700."

"We went for the tracker style as we really wanted to capture the spirit of freedom as much as possible," agreed the Uzer brothers. "The twin motor is the perfect base with its engine characteristics and the bike inspires you to create something light, agile and free."2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM STU 004

To create their tracker style interpretation of the Sport Heritage machine, Bunker Customs raised the seat position and made more room at the front for the rider to move around. They also went looking for more ground clearance, relocating the exhaust and changing the front wheel to a 19" for all-terrain riding.

Giving the bike that real Bunker look, all body panels were changed for hand beaten 2mm aluminium pieces, including fuel tank covers, side panels, front and rear mudguards, radiator covers and seat plate. A CNC milled aluminium spine carrying the fuel tank covers is also sanded and polished to create a stunning view on top. Renthal bars give enough rise to suit the new riding position and the seat goes up by 6cm to match. This is done with a bolt-on extension that can be fitted to any XSR700 stock frame.  A suede leather covering adds style to the seat that retains the original locking mechanism.2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM DET 002

To stay comfortable and practical whilst looking good on rough roads the build swaps out the standard forks for MT-09 Tracer upside down units. The standard rims are also ditched in favour of cool Super Ténére spoked wheels on Goldentyre GT201 rubber, 19" front and 17" rear.

A 5.5" aftermarket halo headlamp sits in a custom mount, complementing the custom front mudguard mount, both made from 8mm steel tube.2016 YAM XSR700BUNKERS EU CUSTOM DET 003

Driving home the all-terrain practicality, the overall ground clearance was raised from 14cm to 20cm, with the silencer and exhaust manifold re-positioned. The exhaust system was handmade in stainless steel and incorporates an Akrapovi? catalytic convertor where the muffler and the 2to1 joins.

Bunker Customs sprinkled the build with several genuine Yamaha accessories, including billet clutch and brake levers, foot-pegs and side-stand risers and the bike is finished with a beautifully simple and understated graphic style inspired by the 80s.

2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB STA 006 03The new Sport Tourer

More people are coming back to appreciate that powered two wheelers offer an affordable, accessible and exciting way to discover another world and live another life. And an increasing number of riders are looking to expand their horizons by choosing a Sport Tourer as their next motorcycle.

Yamaha has recently released many exciting and innovative motorcycles to the market, and will continue to push ahead with its extensive new model development programme. In summer 2016 we will be introducing a sporty and versatile new model which will mark a significant step forward in the approach to the Sport Touring segment.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB DET 005

The exciting and addictive new Yamaha Tracer 700 has been developed from the highly successful MT-07 platform, and is poised to attract a new generation of riders by strengthening and reinvigorating the current Sport Tourer line up. Offering an impressive specification combined with an affordable price - and featuring a bold and individual style - the Tracer 700 has the potential to transform the image of the Sport Tourer class.

Positioned to become the definitive middleweight Sport Tourer, the Tracer 700 is a natural step-up model, and is ready to expand the segment and reinforce the huge success of the Tracer 900.

The launch of this sporty new model also offers Yamaha the opportunity to rationalize and expand the company's Sport Tourer segment, which will embrace the new Tracer 700 and also the Tracer 900, as well as the recently revised FJR1300 flagship models.

With its sports-oriented heritage - combined with serious long distance abilities and dynamic good looks - the new Tracer 700 opens up an exciting new era in the middleweight Sport Tourer category.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB ACT 013 03

Turn Your Story. Making new memories.

Whether riding solo to a cafe on a Sunday morning or spending two weeks touring the continent with a passenger and luggage, the Tracer 700 has the potential to introduce its rider to a new world, and help make new memories that will last a lifetime.

With its good looks, attractive specification and the ability to perform strongly in different situations, the Tracer 700 is an exciting and versatile middleweight aimed at a wide variety of riders who want to make the most out of every day. The next page in everyone's life story is yet to be filled. And the Tracer 700 is ready to help in turning it.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB DET 009

Riding with emotion. Thrill to the torque.

One of the key features that differentiates the Tracer 700 from other models in the mid-class Sport Tourer category is its ability to deliver a sporty, emotional and intuitive riding experience. We all ride because we choose to, not because we have to. And so our 'Kando' philosophy* is to create a range of motorcycles that will inspire, excite and make you smile on every ride.

The new Tracer 700 embodies this way of thinking in every respect, and is equipped with the 4-valve twin cylinder 689cc engine that won numerous awards in its debut year with the MT-07. This torque-rich 'crossplane philosophy' engine is playing a major part in re-establishing Yamaha as Europe's leading brand, and the new-generation 689cc design has been widely acclaimed as one of the most enjoyable and rewarding powerplants in the category.

One of the key attributes of this emotional twin cylinder engine is its 270-degree crank that delivers an uneven firing interval, and this characteristic contributes towards a strong feeling of acceleration - as well as offering high levels of traction. The deep and powerful linear torque output gives the new Tracer 700 the ability to deliver an exciting and rewarding riding experience that conventional twin cylinder engines simply cannot match, giving this new Sport Tourer the ability to deliver an enjoyable and emotional ride on every journey.

As well as producing a unique and responsive engine character that makes the Tracer 700 a true Sport Tourer, the 689cc twin cylinder design also makes class-leading levels of power and torque. Developing 55.0 kW (74.8PS) @ 9,000 rpm, together with 68.0 Nm (6.9 kg-m) @ 6,500 rpm, the new Tracer 700 offers strong sports performance for exciting cornering on winding country roads. Then, when it's time to pack up and go, this versatile bike is built to make light work of long distance touring.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB DET 014

Sport Tourer. Excitement in every corner.

Excitement has been engineered into the Tracer 700's DNA, as its compact and lightweight chassis features a tubular steel frame that has been developed from the highly acclaimed MT-07 platform. This minimalist design instantly established a strong reputation for its agile handling and responsive character, and the Tracer 700's newly developed chassis features a range of exclusive refinements that are designed to enhance its versatility and comfort while retaining a strong sporting heritage.

For a more stable riding character at higher cruising speeds - especially when riding 2-up with luggage - the Tracer 700 is equipped with a 50mm longer swingarm to give a wheelbase of 1450mm. To suit its long distance role, the 130mm travel front and rear suspension systems feature revised settings for smooth and responsive characteristics in a variety of conditions. Dual 282mm front discs with 4-pot calipers and a 245mm rear disc deliver powerful and responsive braking performance, and ABS is equipped as standard.

These chassis refinements - combined with a class-leading wet weight of 196 kg - ensure that the Tracer 700 is ready to excite in every corner, and yet can be transformed into a serious long distance tourer with the addition of a range of Genuine Yamaha accessories.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB DET 013

Go the full distance. Feel the difference.

With its torque-rich engine and agile chassis, the Tracer 700 is a truly versatile bike that is ready to excel in any situation. In addition to its exclusive chassis and suspension refinements, this sporty new middleweight benefits from a number of features that underline its genuine touring potential.

The fuel-efficient 689cc twin cylinder engine is fed by a large capacity 17-litre fuel tank that gives the Tracer 700 a long range between fuel stops, making this middleweight Sport Tourer a serious long distance performer.

To help deflect wind from the rider's upper body, the Tracer 700 is fitted with a manually adjustable windscreen as well as knuckle guards with integral flashers. Dual Tracer 900-style headlights emphasize the model's modern and aggressive look - and for added rider and passenger comfort there's a new one-piece stepped dual seat and passenger grab bar.

With its unique mix of riding excitement combined with day to day versatility and impressive long range potential, the Tracer 700 is ready to open up the world of Sport Touring to a new group of riders from different backgrounds.2016 YAM MT07TR EU RMB DET 012

Taking it further. Making it their own.

Every owner likes to personalize their bike to suit their lifestyle and individual needs, and we have developed a range of key accessories for the Tracer 700, including 20-litre soft side cases, as well as a 39-litre top case, and there is also a higher windscreen for increased weather protection.

The full range of Genuine Yamaha Parts & Accessories will be announced near the Tracer 700's arrival in the market.

Impressive 2016 EnduroGP championship start for Mathias Bellino

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Mathias Bellino has made a near perfect start to his 2016 Enduro World Championship campaign at the GP of Morocco in Agadir. Topping both the EnduroGP and Enduro 2 class results on day one the Frenchman battled his way to the end of a challenging second day of competition to place runner-up in both EnduroGP and Enduro 2.21108 MathiasBellino

Signalling his intentions to fight for the first ever EnduroGP World Championship title, Bellino mastered the dry, rocky and unpredictable conditions on day one in Morocco to claim an ieventual 21-second margin of victory. Although not winning a test during the opening lap, once into his stride the reigning Enduro 3 World Champion went on to move clear of his closest challenger before securing overall EnduroGP class victory and with it the top spot in Enduro 2.

Despite the worsening conditions on day two Bellino again showed himself as one of the event's fastest outright riders. Second in the opening two special tests he arrived at the mid-way point of the day in a position to challenge for a second victory. However, several mistakes on the closing enduro test prevented him from repeating his day one win. On day two Bellino also placed as runner-up in the Enduro 2 class. Bellino heads to the second round of the Enduro World Championship as the EnduroGP class leader.21114 MathiasBellino

In the Enduro 1 class Danny McCanney claimed Husqvarna's best result, despite the event being his first since undergoing knee surgery during the winter. Finishing sixth on day one Danny improved one position on day two to fifth, showing his true potential by winning one of the day's extreme tests. Danny placed less than three seconds from fourth position.

Competing alongside McCanney and in his first Enduro World Championship event, Pascal Rauchenecker battled his way to the end of both days of competition to finish 12th and 11th respectively.20922 Rockstar

Spanish youngster Josep Garcia enjoyed an impressive start to his Enduro Junior championship campaign, finishing as class runner-up on both days. Despite his relative lack of international experience, Garcia completed the championship opening event in style aboard his FE 250.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team now head to Portugal for round two of the 2016 Enduro World Championship on April 16-17.20928 BelRay

Mathias Bellino: "This is a great start to the new championship for me and Husqvarna. Obviously, day one was a really important result. To start the year with the overall win showed that we made a really good job during the months before this race. I felt really good on the first day. The special tests were difficult, but I had a great felling and it showed in my result. I was able to push hard and it was great to win, to show that I am ready to challenge for the EnduroGP title. On day two I was behind Matt Phillips and battling for the win again. I lost everything in the last enduro test with a few mistakes. But I still finished second outright so I'm happy with that. There are a lot of races ahead of us but this is a great start."

Danny McCanney: "I always knew this GP was going to be tough because of my off-season knee surgery. But I gave my all and although the first day wasn't easy for me I felt better on day two. It was hard to get settled on day one, the terrain was so unpredictable and I was a little cautious with my knee. I didn't ride exactly like I wanted to on day two, but it was better. I know it's going to take a little time to feel fully comfortable again, and I hope that the conditions in Portugal next weekend will allow me to challenge for the podium."21105 DanielMcCanney

Pascal Rauchenecker: "It's been a tough GP for me, but I'm pleased to finish both days of racing. The terrain and the rocks was really something very different for me, but I have to learn by racing in these conditions. I had a good feeling with my bike but all of the special tests were so unpredictable that finding a good rhythm wasn't easy. As my first enduro world championship race I now know what to expect, so I can start to understand the best ways to attack the special tests. I'm looking forward to Portugal."20933 PascalRauchenecker

Josep Garcia: "To finish second on both days in my first race in the Enduro Junior class is really pleasing. But I was so close to winning that in some ways I'm a little disappointed. But I know that I can fight for the top position. So for that reason it's been a very positive GP. I have a great feeling with my bike, even if it's my first season on a 250f. Now I know what areas I have to work on and improve. But in Portugal I want to fight for the win."

Ryan Dungey KTMRyan Dungey qualified second overall in the morning's combined qualifying sessions, where he was seeded into 450SX Heat 1. In the heat race, Dungey grabbed a decent jump off the start and eventually settled into the second place position behind Jason Anderson.

Main Event

In the 450SX Main Event, Dungey shot off the line in a battle for the holeshot on his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, where he quickly took over the lead position on lap one. With Ken Roczen close in tow, Dungey maintained a steady pace while navigating through a hectic path of lapped traffic.

With four laps to go, Roczen jumped past Dungey through the rhythm section but soon made a mistake over the finish line that allowed Dungey to reclaim the lead. Dungey kept his composure in the final laps to earn his seventh victory of the 2016 season, thus extending his points lead over Roczen in the 450SX Championship.

Dungey's teammate, Marvin Musquin, did not race in Indianapolis due to a practice crash that occurred at the previous round in Santa Clara. Musquin is expected to return to racing soon.

After a small break in action for the Eastern Regional 250SX Class, the riders were back with Shane McElrath and Alex Frye representing Troy Lee Designs Red Bull KTM inside Lucas Oil Stadium. Picking up where he left off, McElrath claimed another top finish in fourth on the KTM 250 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, while Frye finished 20th.

The track was treacherous for the fifth round of the season, with ruts forming early in every lane. Both McElrath and Frye qualified well out of their heat, putting them in a good spot for the Main Event.

McElrath started near the front, coming across the first lap in seventh. He kept the riders in front of him close and was able to make a few late-race passes to move into fourth.

"I'm still working my way back (after the off-season injury) and it's nice to see some consistent results," said McElrath. "Tonight's track was pretty brutal and challenged everyone physically and mentally. I'm really looking forward to St. Louis. Hopefully we'll be able to get back on the podium."

Frye had his work cut out for him after getting a 15th-place start and unfortunately the track collected him early and was unable to continue, being credited 20th.

2016 YAM 04GEN DET 001Fourth Concept Model based on "Refined Dynamism" Design Philosophy -

Thursday, April 7, 2016 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that it will exhibit the 04GEN scooter design concept model at the Vietnam Motorcycle Show 2016. To be held in Ho Chi Minh City from April 7 to 10, the show will be the first motorcycle show event held in Vietnam.

The 04GEN was designed based on the RUN-WAY concept, which evokes the image of women with an air of dignified elegance and grace in mind and body. Compared to regular scooter body structures - which hide the frame with exterior parts - the 04GEN only covers the frame with semi-transparent exterior parts. Showcasing the beautifully-engineered interior structure brings a lightness to the majestic body, creating a new design which synthesizes the interior and exterior to achieve a rare beauty.2016 YAM 04GEN DET 003

Yamaha Motor, which has positioned design as a central pillar of product creation from its founding, established Refined Dynamism as its design philosophy in 2013, and is putting energy into developing products that realize the unique style of Yamaha. Based on this philosophy, Yamaha Motor has announced three design concepts to date: The 01GEN in 2014, a crossover motorcycle with two wheels at the front, the 02GEN, an alluring electrically power-assisted wheelchair, also in 2014, and in 2015 the03GEN, mobility enhanced by optional colors, materials, and finishing for the TRICITY.

Yamaha Motor will continue exhibiting and advancing our GEN design concept whenever the opportunity arises.2016 YAM 04GEN STA 001end bike test
