YamahaSR400-Krugger 04 tcm269-665670Over the last three years Yamaha's Yard Built programme has gone from strength to strength, consistently working with the world's top custom builders to deliver fresh takes on the Sport Heritage range of motorcycles. The latest collaboration, with Belgian builder Fred 'Krugger' Bertrand, takes it to a whole new level with a stunning layer of MotoGP history cleverly woven into the custom Yamaha SR400.

Having agreed to collaborate together with Yamaha on a Yard built project, Fred chose to take inspiration from close friend and fellow Belgian Bernard Ansiau, who just happens to be a MotoGP mechanic for arguably the greatest rider of all time, Valentino Rossi.2016 YAM SR400KRUGGER EU CUSTOM DET 007 03

Whilst this role alone is enough to place Bernard as one of the most enviable mechanics alive, his CV is also littered with legends, having previously prepared the racing machines for Yamaha greats such as Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts, Randy Mamola and Norick Abe amongst others.

Fred and Bernard agreed to take the humble Yamaha SR400 as the base, and then bring alive the racing spirit of the 1970s in a tribute to the Yamaha TZ machines and also to mark Bernard's career.2016 YAM SR400KRUGGER EU CUSTOM DET 008 03

"This Yard Built really is a unique piece of art," commented Yamaha Motor Europe Marketing Coordinator Cristian Barelli. "I think it's impossible to have a custom that lives and breathes our racing history better than this. It's such a beautiful bike and the longer and closer you look at it the more detail you find to enjoy. You wouldn't normally associate the SR400 with MotoGP racing but this build is as genuine and authentic as its possible to get, a real Yard Built special!"

As to be expected from a build inspired by the pinnacle of MotoGP racing, the little SR400's engine gets some serious work, most noticeably with a beautiful Aisin 300 supercharger with custom plenum chamber. A one-off stainless steel exhaust system is complemented by an S&S 48mm carburettor in place of the fuel injection system. The beautifully polished front forks have been lowered and balance with a set of Fox shocks at the rear.  Keeping the SR400 rubber side down are a set of Dunlop K81s, inspired by the first tyre to lap the Isle of Man TT course at over 100mph.2016 YAM SR400KRUGGER EU CUSTOM DET 010 03

There are almost too many custom details to mention as Fred's obsession with perfection spills across the SR400. Motogadget speedo, switches and grips sit behind a tiny custom cowl at the front above a modified top triple clamp and custom handlebars. The brakes and clutch have been given an upgrade and are by Beringer, adding some power over stock to match the supercharged 400

The standard SR400 fuel tank has been kept, but reworked to be narrower and longer and a custom tail unit hides all the electrical components. A stunning interpretation of the Yamaha Speedblock in blue and white completes the colour scheme, with the names of all the riders in Bernard's racing career written into the design. Under the back seat the eagle eyed will also spot a small light-hearted homage to the Doctor himself! It genuinely doesn't get any better than this, a true work of art.2016 YAM SR400KRUGGER EU CUSTOM STA 005 03end bike test

vmx02This year’s MXDN Vets event staged at the legendry UK Fairleigh Castle track is said to be one of the wettest and muddiest ever to run in the UK, so much so that a number of heats were cancelled, in the vet’s class the heats were reduced from 4 to 3 due to the rain.

The star studded 4 man SA team of past SA multiple National champions, Springboks and a World champ consisting of Ryan Hunt, Tony Riddell, Andre David and Grant Langston all had their own problems competing on the older pre 83 motorcycles, all of them has stalling problems, some clutch issues and the mud and water did certainly not help.

The compulsory older machines were also not what the guys were used to racing which was another issue but that was the rules for this event.

The South African Silverline Tools, Global ASP team were certainly not disgraced with Ryan Hunt finishing 3rd overall, for the weekend after numerous stalls and mishaps but still managing good results in all 3 heats, Andre David also did exceptional well but also had his problems a massive off the line wheelie when his clutch failed (see image attached) put him a good way back in the field in heat 2, but he still managed an outstanding 11th overall from the huge international line up. Mr consistent and the oldest of the team Tony Riddell also had his problems and managed a 29th overall.vmx01

Ex world champion Grant Langston was going well and set for a good result but a huge crash saw him T-Bone a rider who threw it away in front of him putting him out of contention seeing him finish well down the field in 54th place.

The team were supported by Cradley Kawasaki in the UK who were there spanner team for the event keeping the machines in working order. The team all agreed without these guys they would never have achieved much over the two days.

“These technical issues could well have cost us an overall win as all of us had similar problems, at the starts and out on the track, plus 1 disqualification and Grants big crash putting him out of the 3rd heat,” said Ryan Hunt. We were all looking really good in the practice and the qualifying heats and it certainly looked like we could pull off some great results. Of course the huge field of 60 riders on a rain soaked track made for some tough racing, the thick slippery mud and the rain never let up all this did not help things. We knew we would have rain as it always rains over here so we expected some rain and a wet event, but no one expected this sort of weather. But that’s motocross today one must expect these sort of conditions at the end of the day it was really good fun and we all enjoyed it, one good result is we beat the yanks,” said Hunt

6studentsYamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and the VR46 Riders Academy return with the second edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp, to offer six young Yamaha riders, selected by Yamaha, a chance to gain knowledge and experience from professionals in the racing industry such as Valentino Rossi, the VR46 Riders Academy and many more.

The very successful first edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp saw five students be mentored by none less than Valentino Rossi, the VR46 Riders Academy, three-time English Flat Track Champion and two-time American and European Flat Track Champion Marco Belli, and many others. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and the VR46 Riders Academy now return with a second edition of this young talent-nourishing project, to be held from September 14th - 18th, 2016.

Similar to the first edition (you can see the final video review of the 1st Master Camp HERE), the participants for the second Yamaha VR46 Master Camp programme were chosen by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd among young Yamaha riders from Asia, based on their Asia Production 250 (the AP250 class) points standings in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) as of round four in Indonesia, their age and other factors.

The new Yamaha VR46 Master Camp rider line-up includes two Thai riders, two Indonesian riders, one Japanese rider and one Malaysian rider. Among them are familiar faces, riders that have already been part of the inaugural combined Yamaha VR46 Master Camp and VR46 Riders Academy training, but also new talent that will be warmly welcomed to the expanding family.

The second edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp will again be hosted by Rossi's VR46 Riders Academy in the region of Rossi's hometown, Tavullia, Italy. There the Master Camp riders will receive training in dirt track riding at the Motor Ranch, track riding at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and other activities such as racing with go-karts and physical fitness training in the gym, all with the goal of helping them progress further as racers.105IR2NW2CWLC7JDK57Y

Valentino Rossi

"I am happy and excited to start talking again about the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp, this time because the second edition is about to start. The first Master Camp in July was an extremely positive experience for all people and companies involved. On a sporting level it exceeded anybody's expectations because the riders selected by Yamaha were really fast in all disciplines. Yamaha's selection was excellent. Peerapong, Galang, Soichiro, Kasma and Imanuel were very motivated and also very proud to wear the Master Camp uniforms. Also for the VR46 Academy riders it was a great and unique experience as they played the role as "trainers" for the first time in their lives! The first Master Camp created a nice group that worked perfectly together and all goals we had in our minds were achieved. Now that we have the experience of the first edition, we aim to take the Master Camp to the "next level" and provide the young Yamaha riders with some more "tips" to become professional riders. One day, who knows, the Master Camp riders and the VR46 Academy riders will be on track competing against each other for a world title! I am sure it's going to be another week filled with sweat and fun!"end bike test

4NSCFC0K5RRLOM0Z1IN4Yamaha clinched the Manufacturer's Title at the 2016 Women's Motocross World Championship on Sunday with a 1-2 podium finish for Courtney Duncan and Nancy van de Ven in the Netherlands on deep and wet sands at the Assen TT Circuit. New Zealander Duncan won the dry and slippery first moto on Saturday, and after heavy rainstorms overnight and immediately prior to Sunday's second moto, van de Ven went on to win in front of a home crowd in the final race of the 2016 season.

Duncan missed a portion of the 2016 season after a thumb injury in Germany, and sat out two of seven WMX rounds following surgery at home in New Zealand. The 20-year old won nine motos and three GPs in her rookie year riding a YZ250F for Altherm JCR Yamaha, and on Saturday in Assen stamped her authority on the race with smooth lines and lap times at 1:46 to finish with a 35-second lead over second-place finisher Kiara Fontanesi of Italy.QNSUUYUH5PYA6AR63TSU

Organizers brought in tons of fine sand to build the 1,500-meter motocross circuit on top of the asphalt MotoGP track at Assen, and riders in all categories praised the conditions through Saturday. Heavy thunderstorms late on Saturday night drained successfully, but even heavier cloudbursts over a half-hour period on Sunday morning left standing pools of water and extremely wet conditions as racing began in five categories, including the final WMX race of 2016.

Duncan and van de Ven rose to the challenge, each finding lines carefully in the soupy ruts. Lap times rose dramatically however, as sands began to absorb the rain and traction shifted underneath the race. In the second moto Duncan's fastest lap came at 2:23, and at the end van de Ven's average speed of 34.43km/h was markedly slower than Duncan's winning 46.40km/h on Saturday.

On Sunday van de Ven passed Duncan in the final laps to win the wet, sloppy moto, and tens of thousands of Dutch and international motocross fans rose to their feet in support as she crossed the line in triumph. On Saturday the Dutchwoman's fifth place was not enough to overcome her points gap to first in the 2016 WMX Championship, but in her final race she found victory and relief.TTR4IHA6VWFPFDE8IMPW

Duncan won the overall at Assen with a second-place on Sunday, and finished the 2016 WMX Championship fifth overall, 18 points back from Fontanesi in fourth. Van de Ven clinched second with a 58-point lead over Germany's Larissa Papenmeier, and a 24-point deficit to France's Livia Lancelot.

Yamaha won the Manufacturer's Title in the 2016 WMX Championship with a combined total of 323 points, 21 points clear of second-place Kawasaki and 65 points ahead of third place Honda.end bike test

AWK84VEY2WGTKUDPEHTNThe GMT94 Yamaha Official EWC Team brought Yamaha its third victory of the 2016 FIM Endurance World Championship at this weekend's 8 Hours of Oschersleben race to end the season as the Vice-Champions for the second year in succession. The YART Yamaha Official EWC Team also fought like gladiators at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, but saw their championship challenge diminish when they were forced to retire after six hours due to a minor technical issue. Team 3ART Yam' Avenue delivered a brilliant performance to secure sixth place as the highest ranking SST team, giving Yamaha the FIM EWC World Cup Title.

GMT94 Yamaha's David Checa, Niccolò Canepa and Lucas Mahias did exactly what they had to do, having arrived at the final round of the 2016 FIM EWC season 16 points behind the championship leader, with 35 points still up for grabs.94JRNHGFL0ZN5XXSECOM

Starting from second, Checa rode a cautious first lap, entering the first corner in fifth position. However, as soon as the tyres were warmed the Spaniard's confidence grew and it wasn't long before the French team cheered on their #94 bike at the front of the field.

Second rider Canepa had never been to the Oscherleben Arena before this weekend, but the track clearly started to grow on him as the week went on. Though he suffered from a lack of grip when the track temperature rose to 52 degrees Celsius on his first stint and he had to let the YART team pass, he still managed the gap to make sure the team could come back strong when the temperatures would drop in the later stages of the race.

Third rider Mahias was not only fighting for the team title but also for the rider title. He showed great spirit during his first stint as, despite feeling the pressure to perform, he pushed out steady laps. He made one of the highlights of today's race when multiple riders crashed in the triple left hander and he pulled off an amazing save, avoiding all riders, bikes and mechanics, at high-speed off-track, thanks to his off-road skills.

After getting away with the incident, it was plain sailing for the GMT94 team, who continued to pick up the pace towards the end of the race as Canepa predicted. They kept their heads down and, with their pit stop strategy planned to perfection, Checa rode a brilliant night session to take a glorious win by 21.315s and secure second in the championship.

First YART rider Broc Parkes, started from pole and came out of the first corner in third place. As the GMT94 team started to pick up the pace, the Australian wasn't shy to follow and rode a strong stint before handing over the bike to second rider Marvin Fritz.

The young German has a great love for the YZF-R1 machine and let it show. His riding did most of the talking. Being the only rider on track dropping consistent high 1'27 and low 1'28 laps, he was quick to take the lead in the race and pull away from his chasing rivals.

The pair of them rode the entire race, with third rider Sheridan Morais supporting them and waiting on the sideline in case either Parkes or Fritz would be unable to continue, which was ultimately not necessary.

YART rode on the limit for six hours straight without any mistakes, but their efforts ended early after the sixth hour. Despite their great pace they suffered a technical issue, which ended their challenge for the title.

Today's results see GMT94 Yamaha take home 35 points and finish the season in second place with 87 points in total, just one point behind the championship winners. YART holds sixth place in the standings with a total of 60 points.

Thanks to GMT94 incredible achievement over the last three races, Mahias secured the 2016 Endurance Rider World Champion title, while Yamaha also secured the manufacturers' title.

Team 3ART YAM' Avenue also added the Superstock title, thanks to an incredible performance that saw Louis Bulle, Alex Plancassagne and Lukas Trautmann ride a faultless race from start to finish to earned them 16 points and claim the FIM EWC World Cup Title.GXG4ZOL2R4A1COZAU1GS

img 5880 schmidt 1800x1800The Koue Bokkeveld in the Western Cape, an hour's drive from Ceres, played host to the penultimate round of the South African National Cross Country (SACC) championship this past weekend. Rain and even snowfall earlier in the month helped with the dust and competitors were set off into what was going to be a hot day in the saddle.

Friday's time trial (loop 'A') consisted of 46 km's of more technical and rocky terrain as usual. Brother Leader Tread KTM's Travis Teasdale, who made a guest appearance at the Koue Bokkeveld 400, managed to post the fastest time ahead of his team mate Ross Branch and third placed Michael Pentecost.img 5923 schmidt 1800x1800

Saturday saw Teasdale setting off first on loop 'B'. The Enduro expert however decided to save himself for the upcoming National Enduro and retired after the first loop. His team mate Ross Branch took the lead early in the race despite problems with his brakes, a flat wheel on the second lap of the 70 km loop however saw Branch falling back, losing important places during the race. He had to ride with a flat wheel for over 60 km's and fell back to third place overall and second place in the OR1 class which is where Branch ended off his race day.img 6050 schmidt 1800x1800

In the OR2 class Brother Leader Tread KTM's Louw Schmidt had an average Time Trial just missing out on the top ten, so Schmidt knew he had some catch up to do on race day. Schmidt started charging early on in the race and took over the lead in the OR2 class after the first lap. A navigation mistake going into the third lap however saw Schmidt losing approx. 7 minutes and from there he had no other choice than taking himself and his KTM 350 XC-F to its limits. The hard work paid off and Schmidt managed to take over the lead again, winning the OR2 class and extending his lead in the OR2 championship rankings.

The Seniors class saw yet again Brother Leader Tread KTM's Juan 'Bollie' van Rooyen taking the lead early on in the race and the experienced rider managed to not just win the Seniors class, but he crossed the chequered flag in seventh place overall amongst the younger competitors. Van Rooyen has now taken over the lead again in the Seniors class.

The final round of the SACC championship is taking place in Westonaria, Gauteng, on 28 and 29 October.end bike test

H-D unveils Milwaukee-Eight Engine, Its 9th Big Twin, and new Suspension for 2017 Models

MILWAUKEE (August 23, 2016) – More power. More comfort. More control. Today, Harley-Davidson redefined touring by unveiling the all-new Milwaukee-Eight™ engine, the ninth Big Twin in its history, plus all-new front and rear suspension for its Model Year 2017 Touring motorcycle lineup.107ci-1-e1471961523946

“These are the most powerful, most responsive and most comfortable Touring motorcycles ever offered by Harley-Davidson,” said Scott Miller, Vice-President of Styling and Product Development Strategy. “The unmistakable look, sound and feel of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles rise to even greater heights with the improvements we’ve made this year. You truly have to ride it to feel it – so we’re inviting all riders to go to their local dealer and take a test ride.”

New Milwaukee-Eight Engine

The new Milwaukee-Eight engine, the ninth Big Twin design in the company’s storied lineage, is a clean-sheet design that combines the classic look, sound and feel of Harley-Davidson Big Twin engines with improvements in every aspect of engine performance.

“The Milwaukee-Eight engine carries the legacy of Harley-Davidson Big Twins into the future,” said Chief Powertrain Engineer Alex Bozmoski. “While respecting the essential Big Twin character, we’ve created an all-new motor. Every aspect of performance, durability and styling has been improved as a direct response to the voice of Harley-Davidson customers around the world.”

Retaining the classic 45-degree V-Twin cylinder angle, the Milwaukee-Eight engine produces up to 11 percent more torque than previous year models and features four-valve cylinder heads that offer 50 percent more intake and exhaust flow capacity. The Milwaukee-Eight engine is counter-balanced to cancel 75 percent of primary vibration at idle, retaining the classic feel of a Harley® V-Twin while being very smooth at highway speeds. A new heat management strategy for all Milwaukee-Eight engines improves rider and passenger comfort. Despite its increased power, the Milwaukee-Eight engine delivers better fuel economy compared to previous motorcycle models.

Milwaukee-Eight engines are offered in two displacements: the Milwaukee-Eight 107 (107 CID/1745cc) and Twin-Cooled™ Milwaukee-Eight 107 (107 CID/1745cc) for standard motorcycle models and the Twin-Cooled™ Milwaukee-Eight 114 (114 CID/1870cc) for Harley-Davidson® Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO)™ motorcycle models.114ci-CVO-e1471961694570

New Touring Suspension

All-new front and rear suspension components enhance the comfort, control and performance of all 2017 Harley-Davidson® Touring model motorcycles. New emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers offer 15 to 30 percent more pre-load adjustment than previous standard Touring shocks, with a single knob to hydraulically adjust pre-load.

“Pre-load can now be adjusted to match the load of rider, passenger and gear without tools or an air pump,” said Paul James, Harley-Davidson Director of Motorcycle Product Planning. “Once set, the pre-load will not leak down or require further adjustment.”

The front suspension features new Showa® SDBV™ suspension technology that delivers the damping performance of a racing-style cartridge fork with linear damping characteristics and reduced weight.

Screamin’ Eagle® Performance

Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle® Performance will offer a range of new ECE-certified products for Touring models, including Street Cannon Slip-On Mufflers and Heavy Breather Performance, Ventilator and High-Flow Air Cleaners.  In addition, the new Screamin’ Eagle® Milwaukee-Eight™ Stage I, II,  III and IV kits enable riders in compliant countries to fully upgrade the performance of their bike to suit their riding style; from a passing power increase to a total engine upgrade delivering maximum performance (product compliance varies from market to market).

IPQBZZT8DCK73P9K5YXGPata Yamaha Official WorldSBK rider and 39th "Coca-Cola Zero" Suzuka 8-Hours Endurance Road Race winner Alex Lowes joined Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider and fellow Suzuka teammate Pol Espargaró at the Automotodrom Brno this afternoon to experience the YZR-M1 during the official one-day IRTA test.

Patiently waiting until the last hour of the day before he could sweep his leg over the 1000cc racing machine, the Briton confidently enjoyed his first laps on the premier class MotoGP bike. Reacquainting himself quickly with the Czech circuit, having not ridden there since he was 17 years old, Lowes soon got a feel for the power of the MotoGP YZR-M1 and improved his first hot lap by over a second when he set a fastest time of 1'59.558s.

Clocking the twelfth fastest time and booking more than 1.146s improvement in just fifteen laps, the test unfortunately ended a little pre-maturely when Lowes suffered a small front end crash at the end of the session, but the WorldSBK rider nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed the experience.1WTKOCAPFU600LQ6PI2V

Alex Lowes - Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Rider

"Obviously this was one of the best days of my life! From when you're a kid you dream about an opportunity to ride a MotoGP bike and it was fantastic. Obviously I didn't do too many laps, but the feel of the bike was incredible. The power of the bike and the way that it turns was everything that I expected and even more than that, so it was an incredible experience.

"I have to say a massive thank you to Yamaha for giving me this opportunity, it's a dream for me. Also a massive thank you to the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team for giving me the opportunity as well and I'm so sorry for the crash, but honestly I really enjoyed the experience and it's a day I will remember for the rest of my life.

"The brakes and the tyres are quite a lot different from a WorldSBK bike, but the biggest difference is the power. When I came from my first lap onto the straight I felt the engine's full power and it was amazing, I couldn't believe how fast it was, so I would say the biggest difference is the power.

"The crash was on my last couple of laps, nearly at the end of the day and obviously the reason was because I tried to push a bit too much without understanding everything. I broke a bit more and lifted the rear a bit, went a little wide and the track was a bit dirty and I lost he front. It was only a small crash but I'm feeling really sorry for that. Honestly, it was a fantastic experience and I really enjoyed it, even if I did only 15 laps, it were the best 15 laps I ever had.

"The YZR-M1 is so nimble and agile, it's a big step compared to what I have been used to. I have no experience of anything like this before and the way you go from one side to the other, it's like you are on a cycle bike, it is really easy. So many things felt a lot better for me but were also difficult to understand in the time, but it's been great."end bike test
