Springbok and Multiple SA Motocross Champion Ryan Hunt with Team Tork Craft finishes 5th overall in the 30+ Evo 125 VMXdN Annual International Motocross at Foxhill track UK
Riding this legendry VMXdN event for the 5th time in his career and the only South Africa to enter this year
The legendary Foxhill motocross circuit that has hosted British and World championship Motocross events, around six miles East of Swindon, brought back the riders and legends for the 2022 VMXdN International.
Being invited to ride by promotor, Dave King, Ryan Hunt entered the 30+ 125Evo class. At the age of 52 Ryan proved he still has what it takes to compete in the sport with the younger riders. Only bikes from 1989 or earlier fit the Evo rules. Fortunately, Nick Pritchet provided a superbly restored to original spec Honda CR125. Along with Nick’s support, Jon Strange, using Tork Craft tools kept the bike with a custom graphics kit from Evo MX, running fast during the weekend.
Foxhill is known as one of the most grueling, and spectacular circuits in the UK, it proved just to be that after a full field in 8 different classes of 40 riders competed in 4 action packed heats over the two days. The circuit, riders and more than 20,000 spectators for the weekend did not disappoint. Racing was as exciting as ever on a track that was laid out to Grand Prix specifications.
“It was a tough two days and I only had 3 laps of practice to get used to the track which I first rode in 1988 on the same bike! I needed more practice time as the circuit has changed over the years,” said Ryan Hunt. “At the time it was wet & muddy as there was plenty of rain in the UK but not this time due to the drought, so we had dusty sections and less grip. Even though the bikes were old the racing was still fast with the front end of the field set an extremely blistering pace. Saturday was challenging as new front brake pads caused the front wheel to bind and lock up in the air during qualifying. Then a gremlin left me without a clutch before a lap was done in both heats however I was still able to get the bike to the finish line. Sunday started much better with a fixed clutch allowing me to really race the bike. Retuning to Foxhill since my last race there in 1998, the Des Nations, brought back so many great memories for me. Now I cannot wait for next year to come around.” Said Hunt.
Final overall results saw superstar Neville Bradshaw, an ex-South African, now racing for Scotland, take the overall class win followed by John May, Jim Davies, Scott Mathia and Ryan Hunt in 5th
