Terra Topia impressed fans and riders with a well-prepared track and a meticulously organised venue. Racing was close in all classes. The short sprint style races kept fans engaged however punished riders who made mistakes in the short heats. It was a real treat to see so many old faces and a mix of vintage to modern bikes and riders racing together.
The days sponsors Tork Craft and Global ASP agreed that the organizers had done a fine job for their event. “It’s great working with the likes of Dave and Rob from Terra Topia, who are both MX riders, they know what riders, sponsors and spectators want,” said Multiple SA National Champion Ryan Hunt. “They prepared a super track that allowed new and old riders to be challenged safely and to have some fun, “Many of the Vets had their sons racing on the day, both sponsors Hunt and Williams had their sons competing on the day.
UK based champ Neville Bradshaw, Global ASP Yamaha, flew out specially for the event. This was the rider everyone wanted to see and race against. He entered an event the day before and crashed badly, he was however still there on Sunday and bravely rode in the very competitive 125 2- Stroke class & the 2 vs 4 stroke challenge on a new Yamaha 125 & 450F.
The best racing of the day came from the125 Challenge race where Kerim Fitzgerald took overall honours followed by Ricky Raaff Husqvarna. A tough Bradshaw surprised everyone finishing 3rd. Leading SA rider Ryan Hunt took the hole shot in both heats ending 4th overall, with fifth going to Jordan Venter
In the 2 vs 4 stroke challenge it was a win for the 2-strokes by Ricky Raff on his Husky 125-machine followed closely by the 4-stroke of Bradshaw in the first heat, showing that 2- strokes are still fast. Neville responded in the 2nd heat with a win giving him 1st overall for the day. Cameron Odendaal followed by Tyron Beverly finished 4th & 5th.
Andre David dominated the Legends 40+ class taking the overall honours from Guy Henley and Chris Nel. Kerim Fitzgerald took the overall place in the Legends Heroes 30+ class from Ryan Fredrich’s and Cameron Odendaal.
The surprisingly quick Legends & Heroes over 50 & 60’s class had some very talented riders. Overall going to Frenchman Michel Casanova Honda CR followed by Tony Riddell Husqvarna FX. Tony now over 50 is still seen riding regularly and training younger riders at Terra Topia. Third overall went to Rodney Odendaal and forth to another multiple SA champion and springbok Brett Redman the son of multiple world road race champion Jim Redman, Paulo Do Couto took the 5th spot overall on his 2015 YZF Yamaha.
The vintage bike VMX class win went to Darryl Hancock Honda CR500 AF, followed by Marco De Nobrega, Bruce Thomas, Gareth Ireland, Justin Waddington on a Maico and Lee Thompson.
